Conduct independent research activities under the guidance of Keisha Bentley-Edwards, Assistant Professor in General Internal Medicine and Associate Director of Research for the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity in preparation for a full time academic or research career.

Work Performed

The Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity postdoctoral associate will work on the NIH-funded project, Religion, Spirituality and CVD Risks: A Focus on African Americans. The post-doctoral associate will focus on a supplemental project, The influence of religion/spirituality on Alzheimer’s Disease and its related dementias (ADRD) for African Americans. This research is at the intersection of race, religion, culture, community and medicine. You will be working with Dr. Keisha Bentley-Edwards, Principal Investigator, and other members of the interdisciplinary research team to compile and analyze data collected from the Health and Retirement Survey, as well as other secondary data sets related to the parent award. Strong organizational, research, writing and interpersonal skills are necessary to be successful in this position. Experience analyzing secondary data and in conducting health equity research is preferred. This post-doctoral associate position is available for a start date as early as October 1, 2020. This post-doctoral position is eligible for a one-year renewal for the 2021-2022 budget year based upon funding and performance.

Required Qualifications at this Level

  • Ph.D. in social sciences related discipline, public health or closely related field.
  • Experience in conducting quantitative research on racial and ethnic health disparities/health equity.
  • Experience developing and submitting manuscripts for publication.
